the question is Determine which solutions (list number) would be expected to have any buffer capacity. Show how these solutions meet the criteria. Does the data after the addition of acid indicate buffer capacity for these solutions?

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

3.0 M was added to HCL

OpenStudy (zubhanwc3):

(I am going to assume that 1 has a buffer capacity, however it is a low buffer capacity) Alright, so the solutions with a buffer capacity are 1, 2, 3, and 4. The reason for this is because they resisted the change of pH. The data after the addition of acid helps indicate the buffer capacity of these solutions

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

what about number 5

OpenStudy (zubhanwc3):

the pH change is 3.23 meaning that it did not resist the change of pH the pH change was very large, although the inital bit of the solution was large, (8.37) 38.6% of the solution became more acidic,

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

the next question is which solution (list number) has the best buffer capaccity and why? would it be solution #2

OpenStudy (zubhanwc3):

yes it would be solution 2, because it resists the pH change the most

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

the next question is explain why solution #1 is acidic and #5 is basic. Show chemical equations to support your answer.
