First we will have to distribute the exponents. So 10^5 is 10 x 10 x 10 x 10 x 10 which equals 100,000 and 10^6 is well 10 x 10 x 10 x 10 x 10 x 10 which would equal 1,000,000 we now can continue the problem: 1.2 x 100,000 = 120,000 and 5.35 x 1,000,000 which equals 5,350,000. Now we add these together which equals 5,470,000, but changing it to scientific notation would require to move the decimal point over a certain number of times: 547 x 10^4 would be our first scientific notation, but you could have 54.7 x 10^5 or 5.47 x 10^6. Whichever works.
Hope this helps!
