because i was confused wether Na2So4 was a acidic or basic. It should be neutral but a pH test said it was baic
OpenStudy (waheguru):
Na2SO4 occurs when NaOH and H2SO4 react. both are strong bases and acids producing weak conjugate acids and bases so shouldnt it have been neutral?
OpenStudy (waheguru):
but the ph test indicated it had a ph of 9 :S

Even if its a weak anything, neutral requires it to be exactly 7. I think the LEO GER or OIL RIG (oxidiation/reduction) principles may help.
OpenStudy (nottim):
Also, pH applies to solids too right?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Na2SO4, or sodium sulfate, is a salt formed in a neutralization reaction with sulfuric acid (an acid) and sodium hydroxide (a base). So it is neither an acid or base, it is a salt.
OpenStudy (ookawaiioo):
YES! its amphoteric!
OpenStudy (nottim):
should explain that. im confused.
