This is the same as $\frac{ x+6 }{ 12 }*\frac{ 10 }{ x-8 }$

I could cross multiply to make the 12 a 6, and the 10 a 5, but could I cross multiply the other two?

You dont need to cross multiply the way I set it up.

((x+6)/12 ) / ((x-8)/10) = (x+6)/12 * 10/(x-8) = 5(x+6) / 6(x-8)
