Geometry question! help please!! Find the lateral area for the regular pyramid.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Multiply lengthxwidth!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so you would do 2*3 but that would not be the answer because it has to have a sqrt in my answer

Directrix (directrix):

Lateral Area of a regular pyramid: ½ perimeter of base × slant height.

Directrix (directrix):

@ClaireMae17 What is the slant height of the pyramid?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3?

Directrix (directrix):

I don't know. Look at the black, red, and blue triangle inside the pyramid as shown on the attachment.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so since that it is a triangle you have to first figure out the area of that which is 1/2 BH and then go from there right?

Directrix (directrix):

In this right triangle, the height of the solid is 3. The slant height L is the length of the hypotenuse of that right triangle. The slant height of the pyramid is the length of the altitude of one of the 4 congruent triangular faces on the surface of the pyramid. |dw:1422547932818:dw|
