Help with Vectors

OpenStudy (darkbluechocobo):

If v = <0, 2> ; w = <4, 2> , then the projection of v onto w is:

OpenStudy (darkbluechocobo):

\[\frac{ 4 }{ ||w||^2 }(w)\]

OpenStudy (rational):

yes that looks good

OpenStudy (darkbluechocobo):

\[\frac{ 4 }{ ||2\sqrt5||^2 }(4,2)\]

OpenStudy (darkbluechocobo):

so for the denominator, would it be 4*5? because ^2 cancels out the square root

OpenStudy (rational):

Yes

OpenStudy (darkbluechocobo):

so 4/20(w)=(4/5,2/5)?

OpenStudy (astrophysics):

\[(\sqrt{2\sqrt{5}}))^2 = 2\sqrt{5}\]

OpenStudy (darkbluechocobo):

Im confused

OpenStudy (astrophysics):

\[|| 2\sqrt{5}||^2 \implies (\sqrt{2\sqrt{5}}))^2 = 2\sqrt{5}\] or am I just being dumb here

OpenStudy (darkbluechocobo):

http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=%7C%7C2sqrt5%7C%7C%5E2

OpenStudy (darkbluechocobo):

because the 2 is separate from the sqrt, it is like multiply it by 2 and then sqrt5^2=5

OpenStudy (darkbluechocobo):

so 4*5

OpenStudy (astrophysics):

Oh I forgot to square again xD

OpenStudy (astrophysics):

Nice :)

OpenStudy (darkbluechocobo):

Thank you :> Thanks for the confirmation though guys. vectors are fun

OpenStudy (astrophysics):

You're doing good :)

OpenStudy (darkbluechocobo):

thank you :p
