if I know the wavelength of an emission photon how I can figure out which gas it it from?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You can calculate the energy of the photon:\[E=\frac{ hc }{ \lambda }\]where E is energy; h is Planck's constant; c is the speed of light and λ is the wavelength. That energy will be equal to ionization energy of a given gas.
