, where must the zeros of the function lie? they are asking when is f(x) 0 ? look at your table. do you see that f(x) changes as x changes ?

now a little later (think of x as time), at x= 3.5 , what is f(x) ?

now if f(x) changes smoothly with no jumps, from 4 to -0.2 , it must have be 0 somewhere between x=3 and x= 3.5
think of f(x) as temperature , for example at 3 it is +4 degrees at 3.5 it is -0.2 degrees it fell from 4 down to -0.2, and must have been 0 at some point, right ?

so part of the answer is there is a zero between x=3 and x=3.5 there is only one choice with that option.
choice A A also says there is a zero between 4.0 and 4.5 if we look at x=4 , f(x) is -0.8 a little later, at x=4.5, f(x) is +0.1 so from 4 to 4.5, f(x) went from negative to positive, and must have crossed 0 so choice A looks good.
