What's the proper method of finding sequences? ex. below

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[a _{n} = n - 5\] Is the proper sequence for this -5, -4, -3, -2, -1? Or is it -4, -3, -2, -1, 0?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

depends on the author of your course.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That is quite a horrifying answer.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

in some courses, N is the set of non zero integers: 1,2,3,4,... in some courses, N is the set of non negative integers: 0,1,2,3,4,...

OpenStudy (amistre64):

that first line is not stated correctly, N is the set of positive integers

OpenStudy (amistre64):

so it all depends on your courses definition of N otherwise, you could define it yourself.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

for n >= 0, the sequence is .... for n > 0, the sequence is .... but im not grading it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks for the help!

OpenStudy (amistre64):

at the begining of your course materials it should define it :) good luck
