@Teddyiswatshecallsme

OpenStudy (phebe):

p = 4x + 450

OpenStudy (phebe):

i mean p = 4x + 390

OpenStudy (phebe):

btw i think the answer is C

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

In 2010, the population is p(0). In 2011, 1 year after 2010, the population is p(0) + 4000 * 1 In 2012, 2 years after 2010, the population is p(0) + 4000 * 2 In year the year that is x years after 2010, what is the population?

OpenStudy (phebe):

i can tell the answer is C

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Let's see if C is correct. The year 2025 is 15 years after 2010, so x = 15. C. p - 15 = 4(x - 450) p - 15 = 4(15 - 450) p - 15 = 4(-435) p - 15 = -1740 p = -1,725 Since p is the population is thousands, using choice C, you get a population of -1,725,000 in 2025, but we are told the population in 2025 is 450,000, so choice C is not correct.

OpenStudy (phebe):

ohh good thing i know its not C because i was just gonna put that

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Try each choice with x = 15, and find p. The correct choice has to give you a value of p of 450,000.

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Of course, we can also figure out what the correct answer is by figuring out the equation ourselves.

OpenStudy (phebe):

the only possible answer it could be is out of B and A im going with A

OpenStudy (phebe):

@mathstudent55

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Did you do what I mentioned above. Solve for p using x = 15. What do you get for p? Here is choice A. p = 4x + 50 p = 4(15) + 50 p = 60 + 50 p = 110 p = 110 means 110,000 people. We were told the population in 2025 is 450,000, so choice A. does not work.

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Now let's try B. p - 450 = 4(x - 15) p - 450 = 4(15 - 15) p - 450 = 0 p = 450 Here we do get p = 450, which means a population of 450,000 in the year 2025, so this choice looks good.

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Choice D. p = 4x + 15 p = 4(15) + 15 p = 60 + 15 p = 75 This means 75,000 people in 2025, so D is incorrect.

OpenStudy (phebe):

THANKS FOR EVERYTHING

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

You're welcome.
