A 20 gram piece of metal is added to a sample of 100 grams of water inside a calorimeter. If the metal is at a temperature of -5° Celsius and the water is at 20° Celsius, which of the following best describes what will occur inside the calorimeter? The final temperature of the water will be 15° Celsius. The energy gained by the metal equals the energy lost by the water. The final temperature of the water will be higher than the initial temperature. The temperature lost by the water will equal the temperature gained by the metal.
@taramgrant0543664 is it d?
The formula that comes to mind when I see this is q lost= q gained q represents the energy So the energy from the water will be lost and the metal will gain that energy
so b?
Yes it should be A and c are wrong right from the start D is also wrong because it won't settle right in the middle where each side is equal it will be towards one side because of the mass of each of them
When a given reaction is conducted in a calorimeter, energy is absorbed from the surrounding water, resulting in a decrease in the water’s temperature. Which of the following potential energy diagrams best illustrates the energy change of this dissolving process?
is it the 4 fourth choice ipicked ? @taramgrant0543664
@taramgrant0543664 ?
I'm not 100% sure but I'm thinking it could be the second one, there is a decrease in energy but this energy shouldn't increase by as much like in option 4 after the reaction happens as some should be lost by the water but again I'm not sure I wasn't the best at picturing these in class
