OpenStudy (anonymous):

how many d orbits must be occupied by a single electron before the electron begins to pair up?

Vocaloid (vocaloid):

5, since there are 5 d orbitals

Vocaloid (vocaloid):

and each electron occupies a separate orbital before pairing up

OpenStudy (taramgrant0543664):

There are 5 d orbitals dz2, dxy, dxz, dyz , and dx2-y2 I'm not going to attempt to draw them on here so I found a link so that you can see what they look like http://www.chemeddl.org/resources/TSTS/Stahl/Stahl9-12/Orbitals9to12.html The d orbitals hold a total of 10 electrons so 2 electron per orbital so there can be 5 electrons in the orbital before they pair up

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks for all responses

OpenStudy (photon336):

D orbitals hold a total of about 10 electrons maximum.
