Medal and Fan! I need help with imaginary numbers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okayyy

OpenStudy (4everaddicted2anime):

z= 1 + 2i w= 1 - 3i Show that \[\frac{ w }{ z }=-1-i\]

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

\[i^2 = -1\] the conjugate of a+bi = a - bi For these problems, you need to multiply fraction by conjugate of denominator \[\rightarrow \frac{(1-3i)}{(1+2i)}*\frac{(1-2i)}{(1-2i)}\] Now distribute... the i"s should cancel in denominator \[= \frac{1-5i +6i^2}{1 - 4i^2}\] simplify by replacing i^2 with -1 \[= \frac{-5 -5i}{5}\] Factor out a 5 \[= -1 - i\]

OpenStudy (4everaddicted2anime):

thank you so much

OpenStudy (dumbcow):
