write the atomic symbols for isotopes with the following characteristics of a mass number of 52 and 28 neutrons

OpenStudy (marihelenh):

First you need to find the number of protons in the atom. The mass number is the protons AND neutrons. So, if you know the neutrons, just subtract to find how many protons there are. This will give you what element it is.

OpenStudy (jebonna):

I agree with whats said above :) If you know its proton number, you can determine its element (each element has a specific number of protons that do not change). To find its proton number, as said above subtract the neutron number from the mass number, and you will get its proton number. Look on the periodic table for the element that has the same atomic number (proton number) and that will be your element (or isotope).
