A block sliding across a frictionless table encounters a region of rough surface with a coefficient of friction of μ. What was the initial speed of the block if it traveled a distance d before a complete stop?

OpenStudy (isaidavila):

There is a fórmula that says Vf^2=Vo^2-2ad Final velocity is zero because it stops so Vo^2=2ad Vo=√(2ad)

OpenStudy (isaidavila):

a= acceleration D= distance Vf=final velocity Vo=initial velocity

OpenStudy (isaidavila):

So you have to find the acceleration using dynamics

Yes thank you, but our teacher wants us to use Energy of Conservation.

OpenStudy (isaiah.feynman):

Then the mechanical energy at the top must equal the mechanical energy at the bottom.
