RhondaSommer (rhondasommer):

Which of the following pairs of atoms do NOT exhibit an ionic bond? N and H Li and Br O and Mg F and Cu @sweetburger i have nooo idea

RhondaSommer (rhondasommer):

lol; and im actually genderfluid. my pfp is my boyfriend...

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

Ok consider the EN difference of the compounds being observed. F and Cu have a very large EN difference therefore they exhibit ionic bonding. Li and Br have a large EN difference and also exhibit ionic bonding. N and H have a small enough difference in EN to be considered to exhibit covalent bonding. O and Mg have large EN difference and therefore exhibit ionic bonding.

RhondaSommer (rhondasommer):

so it N and H because the difference is so small?

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

yes correct.

RhondaSommer (rhondasommer):

COOL okay im understanding this

RhondaSommer (rhondasommer):

why cant i close my question???

OpenStudy (photon336):

even simpler, an ionic bond usually contains a metal and a non metal

RhondaSommer (rhondasommer):

ohh yeah

OpenStudy (photon336):

the electrons are transferred from the metal to the non metal.
