OpenStudy (lilday12):

Which of the following are bases? Check all that apply A.CH4 B. NaOH C. HCl D. KOH

OpenStudy (korosh23):

Anything at the beginning starting with an H is an acid. Ex. HNO3 , but remember this exception that CH3COOH or vinegar is an acid because of the H at the end. Anything with OH at the end is giving you a hint that it is a base. Ex. Mg(OH)2 or NaOH are strong bases. Later you will learn about how to determine if an acid or base is weak or strong using a special chemical table given by your teacher.

OpenStudy (korosh23):

However, CH4 is neither base or acid. It is a COVALENT COMPOUND. Hint: covalent compound is always nonmetal with nonmetal.
