Help with this explanation of Amylose and Amylopectin!!
what do they mean by "a 1,4" and "a 1,6"?? How Ddo I locate these points??
I know that a is alpha helix and b is the beta sheet but, how am i suppose to know what "a 1,4" and "a 1,6" are??
yeah I see what you mean
|dw:1458771430050:dw| so when we've got sugars, usually the anomeric carbon is where the sugars will join. now take a look at the designations alpha and beta. what do you notice about the way the groups are positioned at the anomeric carbon?
@DF001
thanks a bunch
@DF001 you see that the numbering starts at the anomeric carbon that's carbon 1 so when we mean one 6. it means that carbon 1 the anomeric carbon is joined to carbon 6 on the other sugar
alpha and beta just mean where the OH is pointing. the OH on the anomeric carbon points down it's alpha. if it points up it's beta OH Alpha down OH Beta UP
@DF001 THE numbering system begins at the anomeric carbon so that would be carbon 1. see the figure above.
