I'm in Spanish 4 and ya thats not how it ALWAYS works but in this case, that's how it is. Yes, it can be por la mañana or por la noche. It can also be por el dia and so many other things but in this case por is for a boy and para is for a girl.

Not comfortable with that answer, because you don't explain where you would use por and where you would use para. So saying they mean the same thing is dangerous.

I don't either, but I can tell you that Fairy's " por la mañana or por la noche" sound right to me and would not sound right were he or she to use para instead.

That's why I ask you to look up these 2 words, para and por, and learn in which contexts you should use one or the other.

Theres such a thing as a "dictionary of English usage," and I would guess that somewhere you could find a "dictionary of Spanish language usage." Referring to such a work would be abrilliant idea.
