RhondaSommer (rhondasommer):

How many oxygen atoms are in 17.63 grams of CO2? 4.823 x 1023 atoms 2.412 x 1023 atoms 4.730 x 1024 atoms 9.648 x 1023 atoms A?

RhondaSommer (rhondasommer):

@sweetburger

OpenStudy (jfraser):

have you got the work to show how you got there?

RhondaSommer (rhondasommer):

The molar mass of CO2, which is close to 44g/mole, and then divide the 17.63 grams: 17.63g / 44 g/mole = ca. 0.4 moles. I then multiply with Avogadro's number (6.022), and get 2.412 x 10^23. To find the number of oxygen atoms, I have to double this, because the number of carbon atoms to oxygen atoms is 1:2. Right?

OpenStudy (jfraser):

that's how it's done, GJ

RhondaSommer (rhondasommer):

Phew.

RhondaSommer (rhondasommer):

@sweetburger do you agree

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

yep definitely I arrived to my answer the same way

OpenStudy (jfraser):

you always want to follow the units whenever you do conversions like this
