OpenStudy (itrymath):

i have question plz help

OpenStudy (itrymath):

@mhchen

OpenStudy (itrymath):

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Best results are obtained by presenting your question and showing your best work.

OpenStudy (itrymath):

@tkhunny do you know anything about stocks?

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

You are told that it is linear. You have the y-intercept. f(0) You can calculate the slope with any pair of values.

OpenStudy (itrymath):

@tkhunny if you are going to help then you need to give ever single valuable detail because my teacher is very sensitive to non shown work!

OpenStudy (itrymath):

@tkhunny and shouldnt i put 30 in begcuase it represents f(x)

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

help verb 1. make it easier for (someone) to do something by offering one's services or resources. You are describing "Do it for me," I think.

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

"30" does not represent f(x). 30 = f(0). f(x) is to be determined.

OpenStudy (itrymath):

@tkhunny NO not my intention!!!! Im just saying if we are going to work together make sure i included all the details so i dont get F lol

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Follow the three steps I gave you. You will be completely covered.

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

What does the equation look like if you KNOW it is linear?

OpenStudy (itrymath):

@tkhunny i got -25

OpenStudy (itrymath):

@tkhunny thanks you!!!

OpenStudy (itrymath):

it's destined to be a straight line i think

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

You are not answering my questions. "I go t -25" doesn't mean anything. For what? What question are you answering? Try to speak in sentences. It is linear means: f(x) = mx + b - In the slope intercept form. It is not a destiny, it is a requirement. Al we have to do is find "b" and "m".

OpenStudy (itrymath):

g(0)=8(0)-25

OpenStudy (itrymath):

g(0)=0-25 =-25

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Why are you doing anything with g(x). You need to find f(x).

OpenStudy (itrymath):

well that is f(x) just didnt varible

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

f(x) = mx + b You must find m and b. g(x) is given as a formula. f(x) is given as a table.

OpenStudy (itrymath):

OpenStudy (itrymath):

it gives equation....

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

You must be reading something that you are not posting. g(x) is given as a formula or equation. f(x) is given as a table.

OpenStudy (itrymath):

OOOOOOOOOO i see sorry lol

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

What are the Slope and the y-intercept of f(x)? You must find them.

OpenStudy (itrymath):

okay hold on

OpenStudy (itrymath):

f(30)=0(30)- b right ?

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

You are given only f(0), f(1), and f(2). Where did you get f(30)? You need f(0) to find the y-intercept.

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

f(x) = mx+b What is f(0)? f(0) = m(0) + b = b We are also told that f(0) = 30. Therefore, b = 30 and we have the y-intercept.

OpenStudy (itrymath):

i see

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

You find the slope.

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Slope = Rise / Run = Change in f(x) / Change in x = (y1 - y2)/(x1 - x2)

OpenStudy (itrymath):

what are the points?

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

You are given three, (0,f(0)), (1,f(1)), and (2,f(2)). Just pick two.

OpenStudy (itrymath):

so 0,0 and 1,1

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

What is f(0)? We already played with this one when we found the y-intercept. What is f(1)?

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Look at the table for f(x). What is f(0)?

OpenStudy (itrymath):

30

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Perfect. We have the first point. (0,30). Find another point, using x = 1.

OpenStudy (itrymath):

oh so for f(1) = (1,32)

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Yes. Also, f(2) = 34, but we need only two. Using (0,30) and (1,32), what is the slope?

OpenStudy (itrymath):

2

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Done. Now, can we answer the two questions?

OpenStudy (itrymath):

for whats the formula

OpenStudy (itrymath):

f(x)= 2(0)+30

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

We have for f(x) 1) The y-intercept is (0,30) 2) The slope is 2 If you would like to write it, feel free to do so. f(x) = 2x + 30, but we did nto need to do that to answer the two questions.

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

f(x) is NOT 2(0) + 30. That is f(0). f(x) = 2x + 30

OpenStudy (itrymath):

okay

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

There you go. Answer parts A and B.

OpenStudy (itrymath):

I found the slope of f(x) by using the slope formula to calculate it, giving me the answer 2.

OpenStudy (itrymath):

I found the slope of g(x) by using the point-slope form, giving 8.

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Rock and roll! Keep it coming.

OpenStudy (itrymath):

Comparing 8 for g(x) and 2 for f(x), you can see that the slope of g(x) is much greater than the slope of f(x).

OpenStudy (itrymath):

you can go help others im going to write this down on my piece of paper

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

It's what I do. No need to ask.

OpenStudy (itrymath):

lol i got a cramp in my fingers from writing so much... i barley write i mainly just type lol @tkhunny

OpenStudy (itrymath):

@tkhunny thanks so much!!

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

No worries. Write good sentences for part B. That's what "Justify your answer" means.
