`Gametes cannot be made by normal cell division. Since gametes must fuse, they must each have one-half the normal number of chromosomes so that when they fuse they have exactly the right amount. Since mitosis produces daughter cells with the diploid number of chromatids, it cannot be used for sperm or egg production.` "Thanks, Google"
