Which of the following is true? |−9| < 6 |−9| < |−6| |−6| < −9 |−6| < |−9|
Remember that absolute value makes it positive
ok
now which one do u think it is?
try to first evaluate the absolute values
for example, |-3| = 3 |-4| = 4 |7| = 7
oh ok
ummm... C maybe kinda confused
|-6| = 6 is 6 < -9?
ummmmm
no?
Just copy and pasting what I have explained before. Ok so you know what the sign means (<) , but incase you don't know then it means which ever side is on the right of ONLY THIS SYMBOL (<), it bigger, so 4<5 is the same thing as saying four is less than five. Now, absolute value (the thing that has the| |) is how far away the number is away from zero. This is usually showed on a line plot though. An example of absolute value would be |10| which is saying the absolute value of 10. The absolute value of 10 is 10. The reason for that is that 8 is 10 points away from 0. The same would be for |-10| because it is also 10 units away from 10. So, Absolute value is the distance a number is away from 0.
uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh what
Did you try reading it? :)
yes
I'm explaining to you how to solve the problem
ohhh
umm is still dont understand it i dont know what you guys are talking about
Here's an example that from another question Option A says \[ |−8| < 6\] So what we have to do is find the absolute value of 8. As I said to find the absolute value we have to find the distance away from 0 the number is. So 8 is 8 units away from 0. So now it changed from \[ |−8| < 6\] to \[8<6\] or 8 is less than 6 which is false As I said, which ever number is on the right of the < sign is the one that is saying that it's bigger. 6 is on the right and 6 isn't bigger than 8 so we can mark a as false Now option B The equation is \[ |−6| < |−8|\] The first step would be find the absolute value of both of them. The absolute value or |-6|=6 and the absolute value of |-8|=8 Which means it is now changed to 6<8 Or 6 is less than 8 Which is true!
B
Option B is incorrect.
That was just an example.
oh oh
So, do you have any idea on what absolute value is?
nah
Absolute value is the distance a number is away from 0 absolute value (the thing that has the| |) is how far away the number is away from zero. This is usually showed on a line plot though. as Darkknight said "Remember that absolute value makes it positive" so if it say |-4| this would just be 4
D final guess im going with D
\(\color{#0cbb34}{\text{Originally Posted by}}\) @yeetantor D final guess im going with D \(\color{#0cbb34}{\text{End of Quote}}\) Yes D is correct.
\(\color{#0cbb34}{\text{Originally Posted by}}\) @yeetantor D final guess im going with D \(\color{#0cbb34}{\text{End of Quote}}\) do you know why ?
no but i know its right
so absolute value just means as i said if it's |-4| then you make it +4 so in D |−6| < |−9| means 6<9 this is going to be correct bc 6 Is indeed less than 9 make any sense?
The absolute value of |−6| is 6 because it is 6 units away from 0 Try picturing it on a number line |−9| is 9 units away from 0 so that would make it \[6<9\]
kinda

I explained it above all this using a different question as an example.
does Darkknight's "Remember absolute value is always positive" help. can you tell me what you need more help with so I can show you?

thanks
Ok np but we tried to explain 🤷♂️
