So Fiona and George's fractions have a common denominator (or LCM) of 10ab^2 Fiona and Henry's fractions have a common denominator (or LCM) of 4a^3b so to figure out what Fiona's denominator is, just find the GCF of those two terms and then similarly for George and Henry we would use the two terms where they are a constant. so what is the GCF of 10ab^2 and 4a^3b
2ab?
Exactly! and now let's find George's denominator Fiona and George's fractions has a common denominator (or LCM) of 10ab^2 George and Henry's fraction has a common denominator (or LCM) of 20a^3b^2 What is the GCF of those two terms?
10ab^2
Good! And now Henry's denominator George and Henry's fraction has a common denominator (or LCM) of 20a^3b^2 Fiona and Henry's fractions has a common denominator (or LCM) of 4a^3b What is the GCF?
4a^3b
Well done and now if you want, you can check to make sure Fiona is 2ab George is 10ab^2 Henry is 4a^3b so if you want, you can find the LCM of like Fiona and George or Fiona and Henry or George and Henry and you should get all the same values that they told you in the question
Now you should be able to tell which one has the term that has the highest power of b basically which one has the largest exponent on b and what is that exponent
and then the second part talks about the coefficient of those terms and the third part asks you to find the LCM of all three of those terms
ohh so all i had to do was find the least common multiple for all of them! thanks!
You're welcome! Let me know if you want me to check your answers at the end :)
and yes, to clarify simplest common denominator is the LCM so like if you had 1/2 + 1/3 the simplest common denominator would be 6 6 is the LCM of 2 and 3
oops i meant GCF my bad
Oh haha, yeah. Also this was a really interesting question. If I'm being honest- when I first looked at it, I was initially stumped. But then I came back 20 minutes later and looked at it again and was like aha!
are these correct?
wait i think they are nvm thanks AZ
Looks good!
It was my pleasure :D
