Well, a stock is what allows you to essentially "own" a part of a company. You cannot buy the stock directly from the company, or off of some random person, due to the laws and regulations the market has. However, it isn't simply called a "stock store" even though that describes it really well. You have to have to go to a brokerage (a stockbroker) to start investing!
