iosangel:

Do you think the density of the ice affected the melting rate of the ice, or do you think adding the objects affected the melting rates? Be sure to include data to support your answer. Rock Model| Mass | volume| density Conglomerate: 420 | 226 |1.85 | Plain ice: 229 |234 | 0.97

Sheeeeshbby:

Well what do you think for starters?

iosangel:

I think that adding objects to to ice would melt because how much the ice weighs wouldnt have anything to do with ice melting

iosangel:

but that doesnt sound like a proper answer

Sheeeeshbby:

that kinda does make some sense

umm:

This brings me back to when I had to write a hypothesis a long time ago for my science class. Adding items to to ice such as salt, rocks, string, and even styrofoam under it. The salt was the quickest because salt dissolves in water as ions of sodium and chlorine, and these ions hydrate, or join to, the water molecules. This process gives off heat, which thaws ice.

iosangel:

ok but how does adding objects like rocks make ice melt faster ?

umm:

I believe it actually makes the process slower because of the freezing point.

iosangel:

so its density that affected the melting rate?
