In the figure below, A , B , C , and D lie on the circle centered at O Which of the following does NOT appear in the figure? Acute triangle Equilateral triangle Isosceles triangle Right triangle Scalene triangle

hai hai which one do u think it is <3

BettyIsAwesome:

It is either Isosceles or scalene. But it doesn't really show you if its isosceles or scalene.

BettyIsAwesome:

I think its Isosceles tho.... :/

i was thinking the same thing but let me call the expert

First let's go through the definition of each of these. Acute triangle - a triangle that contains all sides under 90\(^o\) Equilateral triangle - all sides are equal (60\(^o\)) Isosceles triangle - a triangle that has 2 equal sides Right triangle - a triangle with a 90\(^o\) angle Scalene triangle - a triangle with no equal sides Okay so, lets look at \(\triangle\)ABO, it contains a 60\(^o\) angle, meaning that it's an equilateral triangle, and it's also under 90, so an acute triangle, it also contains \(3\) equal sides, so we can call it an isosceles triangle too. Acute, Equilateral, Isosceles, Right, Scalene. Now, let's look at \(\triangle\)CDO, it contains a 90\(^o\) angle, making it a right triangle, it also contains 2 equal sides, an isosceles triangle. So from this, we'd be left with \(Scalene\).

I am sorry... I am confused by this.

BettyIsAwesome:

I thought that scalene was a triangle that had no equal sides. It looks like that triangle has 2 equal sides.. :(

Extrinix:

Your question states "Which of the following does NOT appear in the figure?", which means you look for the one that's not included.

You are right, it contains no equal sides, and both triangles have at least 2 equal sides.

BettyIsAwesome:

Okay! I read that wrong then! Thank you @extrinix

No problem!
