Carol Jones is a receptionist in a doctor's office. She worked 35 hours this week. If her regular pay is 9.68 per hour, what is Carol's gross pay?
The formula's for Calculating Earnings:
Hours Worked x Hourly Rate = Regular Pay
Overtime Hours Worked x Overtime Pay = Overtime Pay
Regular Pay + Overtime = Gross Pay.

Well, I know that she worked 35 hours this week.
Since, her regular pay is 9.68 per hour,
I will multiply 9.68 x 35 :
\[9.68 \times 35=338.80\]
Which should be regular pay.
But how do I get her Gross pay, if overtime is over 40 hours?
Sailor:
I think you would multiply 40 hours by 9.68, then do regular pay + overtime = gross pay.
iFish:
But, she only had worked 35 hours, so there would be no overtime.
Also, It's more than 40 hours for overtime pay.
And using the formula's above, I can't seem to get a overtime pay.
iFish:
To be able to get my gross pay.
Sailor:
Hm..

Should I just put the regular pay? Since she didn't work over 40 hours?

just because it says 40 hours doesn't mean you HAVE to work 40 hours for over time
I think it would just deduct 5 hour worth of pay
iFish:
From my worksheet:
"An Employee may also earn overtime pay for all hours worked over 40 within a pay period. The overtime rate is usually 1.5 times an employee's regular hourly pay."
She didn't work over 40 hours in that pay period.

you would have to do sumthin to it like 1.5 is the usualy pay rate so it would be less than the usual because she didn't work the 40 hours
I got the answer i'm just learning how to do it again with you so bear with me
iFish:
Yeah, I understand, I'm not trying to be rude in any way, I hope you understand that.

iFish:
Okay, I will go up to my teacher and ask if that's correct.

iFish:
