And I know that was supposed to mean something good. I know you didn’t mean to hurt me.

But it still did.

Because the hurt wasn’t about him leaving you. I felt that pain with you. I felt it in my chest when you talked about him, like I could hear how empty it made you feel. I never blamed you for missing him.

What hurt was what you said and what it made me realize.

I was there first. I was the one who stayed when things were messy and hard. I was the one checking in every day, the one listening to everything, the one helping you pick yourself up when you didn’t think anyone cared. I was always present, consistent, choosing you every single time.

And he… he was barely around. Never really on. Never really there.

But somehow, his absence took up more space than my presence ever did.

It made me feel small. Like I could give everything and still be overlooked. Like being the one who stays doesn’t matter as much as the one who leaves. And that realization hurt more than I expected it to.

I didn’t need to be chosen over him.
I just didn’t want to feel forgotten.

So yeah, I know you were hurting. But your words hurt me too. Not loud, not dramatic just quiet and deep. The kind of hurt that sits with you and makes you question if being there is ever enough.
