How do you write the formula for # of rectangles when folding a piece of paper? 2 folds=4 rectanges 3 folds=8 rectanges etc

With each fold, you are doubling the number of rectangles. So, the number of rectangles are follows the series 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32.... If you do x folds, number of rectangles would be 2*2*2*2... x times.
