A group of 15 people are forming committees. Find the number of different 4-person Committees that can be formed. Then find the number of different 5-person committees that can be formed.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

15 choose 4 and 15 choose 5. You want to choose 4 ppl from 15. That's what 15 choose 4 counts. Same for 15 choose 5.

Oh sorry. Have you heard of the expression "15 choose 4" before?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

"N choose K" is the number of ways you can pick K things from a group of N things.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For example, "3 Choose 1" is the number of ways you can pick 1 thing from a group of 3 things. Suppose you had wanted to buy apples, oranges, bananas and you could only buy one of them. How many options do you have? You’d have 3. That’s “3 Choose 1”. What if you could buy two of them? How many ways are there to choose 2 fruits from 3? You can have apples and bananas, apples and oranges, or bananas and oranges. So “3 Choose 2” is 3.
