when i graph an inequality, how do i know which side to graph on?

It is based on the sign. For example

$$y >x$$

You graph the function, in this case it is line X. Then you see the sign. In this case it is the greater than sign. So since y are the values you are plotting on the graph with the appropiate x. So it is everything above line equals x. The answer doesn't include line equals x values because it doesn't have the greater than or equal to sign which would be $$\ge$$. Any more questions?

The previous sign means it includes the values of the line you graphed and everything below it.

So $$<$$

means you don't include the values of the function but you do include everything below it.
