the derivative of X is 1 but the catch is, the derivative of y is DY/DX so, for example, when you derive x² you would get 2x TIMES the derivative of x which is just 1. when you derive Y², you get 2y TIMES the derivative of y which is dy/dx so, 2y(dy/dx)... now, to the problem.... to derive y², i jsut did that - 2y(dy/dx) as for the right side, they cancel out to just 1. derivative of any constant is 0 so you have 2y(dy/dx) = 0 solve for dy/dx to get dy/dx = 0/2y which is just 0 ur answer is dy/dx = 0
