This is just the integral of (-x^2 - 2x) - (0) dx from -2 to -1. If you want to find the area underneath two curves from A to B, you'd want to integrate the difference of those two curves from A to B. If you want to find the area between a curve and the x-axis, then that's a special case in which the second function is just 0.
