does anyone know how to subtract diffrent fractions?
yes, give an example so i can help you with.
7/8-1/3
If you know how to add fractions, it's the same principle.
13/24
ok, first you must find a common denominator between the teo, to make it the same, that way you'll be able to subtract the fraction. lets go over the steps.
kawsar, perhaps you should give the steps before you give the answer next time...
I was just waiting for you to do the steps.
ok, no prob :DD, ill do the rest.
lol! I saw you replying then thought, You're a superhero for a reason!
first you must find multiples for the two: multiples of 8: 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 24 multiples of 3: 1, 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24 as you can see they both have 24 in common, so this will be your new denominator.
however, when you switch your denominator, you must also switch your numerator during the process.
so this is how its done:
7/8-1/3 is the original problem., and we know that the denominator must be 24 for each fraction. so to get 24 for the first fraction(7/8) we multiplied 8*3 to get 24, so we must also multiply 7*3, and we get 21. your new fraction is 21/24. now we must do the second one. do you think you can do it?
ok, well next we're going to find the numerator for the next fraction(1/3). we multiplied 3*8 to get 24, so we must aplly the same to the numerator. 1*8=8. so the new fraction if . Lastly, we subtract them. 21/24-8/24= 13/28. DONE! :DD
