i probably would be but this is my first math class in almost 9 years

basically a function is a machine that you feed an x-value, and it spits out a y-value

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so whatever number you put into the function machine, it does what it does and you get some output

OpenStudy (anonymous):

anyways, it is asking you to feed 0 and 2 into the function and see what comes out. so you need to plug those values in for x and compute the result

so instead of it saying -3x^2 I should put the 0 where that x is so it would read (3)(0)^2 ???

right, to find f(0), put a 0 wherever you see an x and keep everything else the same

so my answers would be 5 and 33?

5 looks right, but how did you get 33?

\[(-3(2))^{2} -4(2) +5\]

are those outer parentheses in the first part in the original equation, or did you add them?

with a question like this you need to make sure to just plug in the number to the exact equation and not change it in any way. do you see why the extra parentheses make a difference?

i have to go in a second, but the -3 shouldn't be squared, the exponent only applies to x
