A certain kind of animal weighs about 75 pounds at birth and gains about 2 pounds per day for the first few weeks. Determine those days for which the animal's weight is more than 125 pounds.
hey
Hello
is this the exact question? about and few aren't great words for a math problem
Oh sorry, I forget to add the remainder here it is. The animal's weight is more than 125 pounds when the animal is more than how many days old.
What we have here is an equalities problem. When you are dealing with said [in]equalities problems, it is most helpful to state your goal in normal words, instead of saying "Determine those days for which the animal's weight is more than 125 pounds," say: "At what point in time is the animal's weight greater than 125 pounds?" This is a simple linear equation problem. You have two constants, the animal weighs 75 pounds right now and the animal gains 2 pounds every day. In math terms, your animals weight at t=0 (t is in days) is 75. The animal gains 2 pounds per day translates into 2*t. Therefore, Weight = 2t + 75. In English, the weight of the animal is equal to 2 pounds PER day and weighs 75 pounds initially. W= 2t + 75 Now, your job is to figure out when the weight is over (>) 125 pounds so if 2t + 75 is equal to the weight, your job is to find: 2t + 75 > 125 Solve: 2t + 75 > 125 2t + 75 - 75 > 125 - 75 2t > 50 2t/2 > 50/2 t > 25 days. The animals weight is over 125 pounds AFTER 25 days.
Sorry, accidentally double posted.
Thanks!
No problem. I will assist you with your newer question if you want to jump on over there ;)
