If 20 pounds of fertilizer will cover 1,500 square feet of lawn, how many pounds are needed for 2,650 square feet? (Round your answer to the nearest thousandth.)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Think of this problem (and more importantly, these problems overall) as a proportion. 20 lbs of fertilizer / 1500 sq ft = x lbs of fertilizer / 2650. Ignoring units, 20 / 1500 = x / 2650. Solve for x.

35.333 pounds

i got that answer , but when i submit it online it says its wrong .

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not sure why it would be wrong. I suspect the rounding, but it says nearest thousandth so 35.333 would be correct.

tha'ts right! homework online sucks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

somehow i got 106/3 and it was right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats the fractional answer... your question said round to the nearest thousandth so yea, something was wrong in the question in regards to what they were looking for.
