what exactly is a prime number? a number that has two factors ...one and itself but what does that mean?

OpenStudy (radar):

It means that a prime number can not be divided by a number evenly (no remainder) except the number itself and 1. However, 1 itself is not considered a prime number.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, exactly what radar said. For example, let's say you have 3. Can you divide 3 by any other number? I would say yes you can, you can divide it by 2 but that would get me a number with decimals and I don't want decimals. So you can't divide 3 by any number except itself or one so that makes it totally prime. But 4, for example, can be divided by 2 and give you a whole number. So 4 is not a prime number.

it s a no. dat just has 2 factors ie., 1 and d no itself
