A rectangular counter 3 feet wide and 5 feet long has a circle cut out of it in order to have a sink installed. The circle has a diameter of 18 inches. What is the approximate area of the remaining countertop surface? Use 3.14 for pi.
Counter top area - circle area = left over counter top area (3*12)*(5*12) {for the counter in inches} - (18/2)^2 {aka radius squared} * 3.14 So 2160 for the counter top area - 254.34 for the circle 1905 in squared
thanks, uhmm so then do i just figure out the square root of that??
nope Area is measure in inches * inches or in squared if you want it in feet then you have to convert it back to do that, you take your 1905 which is in inches * inches and divide it by 12 inches * inches or 144 inches squared because there are 144 inch^2 blocks in a 1 ft^2 block So... \[1905inches^2\div144inches^2/foot^2\] = 13 ft^2
ohh i see what your means...thanks for explaining.
