Find the derivative of y=3/x^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I would first rerwite the equation. For instance, whenever you set something to the power of negative ___, that will not only raise the number to that same power, but it will also flip it (if it was originally in the numerator, it will flip to the denominator, and vice versa). So you could rewrite the problem like this \[y=3x^(-^2\] (that's to the negative 2 power by the way, I don't know how totype it using the equation thing). Then you can treat it like how you would normally treat a derivative: bring the power down (-2) and multiply it with the coefficient (3) then subtract 1 from the power. So we have y=(-2)(3)x^-3 =(-6)/(x^3)
