devin made 7 pepperoni pizzas for a party. he cut the pepperoni himself from a sausage that was 13in long and 1 3/4in in diameter. the pizzas were each 14 inches in diameter. His friend Taylor is a real math whiz and took the opportunity to calculate what percent of the total pizza surface area was covered by pepperoni. The pepperoni was cut into slices 1/4 of an inch thick. Each pizza has the same number of whole pepperoni slices (he ate any extra pepperoni!). What percent of the total pizza surface area was covered by the pepperoni? Round your answer to the nearest hundredth.

What an appetizing problem. First determine the number of pepperoni slices. It was 13 in. long cut into 1/4 in. slices. 13x4=52 pieces. These were distributed equally across 7 pizzas (he ate what was left over)! This means he had 7 slices of pepperoni on each pizza (he at the remaining 3 slices of pepperoni)

Now you work the problem. Find the surface area of the 7 pepperoni slices. Find area of one slice and multiply by 7. They are circular and they 1 3/4 in. in diameter. You know what pi is and can compute the radius. Now that you have the surface area of the pepperoni, calculate the surface area of one pizza. The pizza diameter is 14 in. Compute the radius, you know pi. You now have both areas. Divide the pepperoni area by pizza area convert to percentage.
