OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok whats your problem?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

6th gade..loser

OpenStudy (anonymous):

go to hell oc97

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Just ignore them what's your fraction problem

OpenStudy (anonymous):

IF YOUR GONNA TALK TO ME YOUR GONNA TALK TO ME WITH SENSE

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is hell fun?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i can help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you have a problem with fractions that I can help you with or not?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i thought i typed it sorry ill retype

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I HAVE TWO THIRDS PLUS FIVE SIXTHS AND I GOTTA SHOW ALL MY WORK

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so does it look like this: 2/3+5/6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok so first you have to find a common denominator. what is something that both 3 and 6 go into evenly?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ummmmm 18

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok or even more simply your common denominator could be 6 3*2=6 6*1=6 so your common denominator will be 6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so now you can add them

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so in order to get a common denominator you have to do the same thing to the top as you do to the bottom of your fraction. Because 5/6 already has 6 as the common denominator you can leave that fraction alone.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

we have to change it to a mixed numba

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Now take 2/3 3*2=6 2*2=4 your fraction should now look like this 4/6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

huh? u lost me sorry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Your equation looks like this now: 4/6+5/6 simply add the numerators together 4+5=9/6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

YOu can simplify this by asking how many times six goes into nine and how much is left over. 6 goes into 9 once. 1 (3/6) or 1(1/2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so either 9/6 or 1(1/2) is your answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how does it become 4/6 thts my only other q

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok so i2/3=4/6 because in order to have a comomon denominator, which is 6, I have to multiply both the bottom and the top by the same number. so to get 3 to 6 I have to multiply 3*2 You have to do the same thing to the top of the fraction 2*2=4 so now your fraction is 4/6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok i get it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You sure?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

WAIT WE HAVE TO CHANGE IT TO A MIXED NUMBER NO IMPROPER FRACTIONS

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right that's this step.... YOu can simplify this by asking how many times six goes into nine and how much is left over. 6 goes into 9 once and you have 3 left over. 1 (3/6) 3/6=1/2 your final answer is: 1(1/2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is tht the only problem you can help me on

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I can help you on another one real quick if you would like

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok cause its homework u know

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's ok I do online school so I ask a lot of questions too... As long as you understand what you are doing

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2/3-1/6 and 4/7-1/2 well i understand better now so itll probally go along faster

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok are these two separate questions?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

maybe....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well on your hw is 2/3-1/6 a different problem than 4/7-1/2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes yes yes yes yes yes i basically have the whole sheet to do yes yes yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok sorry just checking cause I don't want to give you a wrong answer due to not having a problem written down correctly

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok so let's start with 2/3-1/6 Find the common denominator

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its 6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

good job so what do you have to multiply 3 by to get 6 as a common denominator

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Right and whatever you do to the bottom you have to do to the top so multiply 2 by 2 as well and what does 2/3=?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the answer is 2/6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

isnt it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no... so you multiplied 3*2=6 for you denominator now you have to multiply the numerator by 2 as well so that your fraction is correct. 2*2=4 so 2/3=4/6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you multiply the bottom of a fraction you ave to multiply by the exact same number to the top of the fraction

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right then I did the 1/6 and got 2/6 then 4/6-2/6=2/6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok well -1/6 already has 6 as the denominator so you actually don't have to worry about that particular fraction

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but dont u still have to times it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

your problem should look like this now: 4/6-1/6=? simply do the subtraction across the top. your answer should be 3/6 you can simplify this because you know 3 is 1/2 of 6 so your answer is 1/2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No because the only reason we did it to the other fraction was to make it have the same denominator as -1/6 because both 3 and 6 can go into 6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its 1/2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yep good job sorry I had to go do something really fast ok do you need help on the second problem still?
