i need help with math

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is your math problem

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it says

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wow this must be a long question.....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hanway brought five $20bills with him to the grocery store .he spend $13.75 on meat $8.90 on fish $6.45 on milk $18.25 on vegetable $1724 on fruits and $14.23 on canned goods .how much change should Hanway receive from the five $20 bills

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes it is

OpenStudy (anonymous):

k one sec let me work through it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok take your time

OpenStudy (anonymous):

18

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok for the fruits how much money does he spend? I want to make sure I have the right numbers down...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

um $17.24

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oops...sorryt...thats just the cents...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Muraadk your answer would be wrong... Your answer should be $21.18

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea..sorry...i thought it was just change...but yea...21.18

OpenStudy (anonymous):

$20(5)=$100 Now simply subtract each of his expenses from 100 and you get your answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait why you mean

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how should i show my work

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok so you have 5 20 dollar bills so multiply 20 by 5 to get your total amount of money he starts off with.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so should i write what you said about multiplying

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how about the rest of the money

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hello

OpenStudy (anonymous):

he is working on it...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hi

OpenStudy (anonymous):

He starts with $100. First he buys $13.75 on meat 100-13.75=86.25 Then he buys $8.90 on fish 86.25-8.90=77.35 He buys $6.45 on milk 77.35-6.45=70.90 Then he buys $18.25 on vegetable 70.90-18.25=52.65 He spends $17.24 on fruits 52.65-17.24=35.41 and he spends $14.23 on canned goods 35.41-14.23=21.18 He has $21.18 left over aka this is his change.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(5*20)-$13.75 on meat -$8.90 on fish -$6.45 on milk -$18.25 on vegetable -$17.24 on fruits -$14.23 on canned goods =21.18

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks MuraadK

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so should i write that as im showing my work

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Probably if that is what your directions say

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok it dose so i really cant see the work will you bring it down

OpenStudy (anonymous):

WHat do you mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i mean what you just showed me the work wasnt it long or thats it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

should i write all that i showed my work

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok give me a sec to write it down so it is easier for you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

$20(5)=$100 100-13.75=86.25 86.25-8.90=77.35 77.35-6.45=70.90 70.90-18.25=52.65 52.65-17.24=35.41 35.41-14.23=21.18 Answer: $21.18 in change

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There ya go

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait i have to tell you something

OpenStudy (anonymous):

uhm... okay?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why is it funny

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the last part says how many is he going to receive in five$20 bills

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how much change should Hanway receive from the five $20 bills basically is just asking how much money is he going to have left over or recieve back as change from his 5 $20 bills (which is $100). Your answer is still $21.18

OpenStudy (anonymous):

in the line it says to explan it says estimate to find wheather or not your answer is reasonable

OpenStudy (anonymous):

isnt estimate rounding the number did you do that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):
