i have a problem to cut a pizza into (equal) thirds with 2 cuts in the section of trig substitution. i need to tell where to cut it on a 14 inch pizza. how can i go about doing this?

Do the cuts need to produce triangle pieces; equal shapes? or is it asking for equal volumes? The only way this makes sense to me is if we are measureing the volume of each piece.

has to be equal areas per piece. basically cutting a circle with radius = 7 into thirds. the pieces will not be triangles. they will be parallel to the y axis

Find the area of the entire circle; is 14" pizza a circumference or a diameter? Divide that area by 3: pi(r^2)/3 and this is the amount of area you want your misshapen slice to have, right? Then find the regular slice of pizza (triangle with an arc on it) with an area that when you subtract the area of the triangle; you have the area of the arc equal to the area that you need. Does that make any sense? I would try to work it out now, but class starts soon :)

thanks, but i can't solve it like that... i need to use calculus. it has something to do with trig substitution and integrals. thanks for the effort though

What? Calculus needed in a pizza joint? Never in a millions years :)
