Help with 'equation of a line' algebra question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The equation of a line is \[y = mx + b\] y is the output, m is the slope of the line, x is the input, and b is the y - intercept. Is that what you are looking for?

Sorry, I want to clarify it now that someone is here to help. The full question is: An equation of the line that has a Slop of 3, and a y-intercept of -2 is....____

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay they've given you the slope and y intercept. Just plug those back into the above equation. \[y = mx + b\] \[(output) = (slope)(input) + (intercept)\] \[y = 3x - 2\]

wow, thanks. that seems correct. i tried it myself and i think this is the right answer =)
