Calculate the value of the expression - x^2 + 2 x given that x = 3.13.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is it \[-x^2+2x\]or\[x^2+2x\]?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just substitute and you'll get approximately-3.5369

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In either case, you substitute 3.13 for x:\[(3.13)^2+2(3.13)=16.0569\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for the positive case

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think she meant the first one loki :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah, i think you're right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there is a minus infront

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you just sub. 3.13 into each x and perform the operation - you should get sstarica's answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so, if it says -x^2, and x is 3.13, do i write it like -(3.13^2) or -3.13^2 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you have to substitute x first and the minus stays outside, then after getting the answer mulitply it with minus.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-(3.13)^2 = -(9.7969) = -9.7969 and so on. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks
