How would I compute the gradient for y=e^x + x^2 + 5?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There are two variables here, so all you would have to do is find the derivate of the function with respect to x.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let \[f = y-e ^{x} - x ^{2}-5\] then we find grad (f) as \[< f _{x}, f _{y} >\] \[= <-e ^{x} - 2x , 1>\]

<is inner product be careful> its actuallt a vertical ( )sign and when you get to linear algebra this will make more sense
