How much of the circle is shaded? Write your answer as a fraction in simplest form. heres whats already shaded, 1/2 , 1/9 I got 1/18
Hello, I would be glad to help you with this problem. Can you show me how you got 1/18?
it looks like he just multiplied 1/2*1/9
I know ;) I wanted to see if the steps could be show. I have to ask though, are there 2 portions that are shaded? For example is it 1/2 + 1/9 for the total area shaded?
yes
oh no those areas are not shaded
Okay well if you have 2 portions that need to combined, you are right by looking for the least common denominator. But if you are multiplying you need to do it do both fractions. For example: \[1/2 (9/9)\] Because to get the denominator to 18 you must multiply 1/2 by 9/9 we can't forget the 9 on top ;)
oh okay, so those are the ares that are not shaded?
yes there is a area that is and thats the area where i have to find out the fraction and write it in simplest form
okay well in that case, lets assume that an "equation" for this problem would be: 1/1=a+(1/2+1/9). Here we say that 1/1 is the whole area of the circle in fraction form. and a is the area you are trying to find(the shaded area) and the number in the parentheses represent what is NOT shaded in the circle.
yes
can i send the page to you by email so you could get a better view of what im saying?
Sure. that would be fine. Or if you could take a picture of it etc. and upload it as an atachment etc. that would work too.
ok
