Side of a square is x x^2 is the area of a square 0 is the volume of a *square* I think you mean cube: x^3

I don't know if this will help but I was told that Volume= (base area)(height) except for a sphere. So, for a cube, the base area is a square which gives you "s^2" and multiply that with your height which is "s." And that gives you what Supervisor got. Just an idea for remembering.
